KUALA TERENGGANU (SITE ANALYSIS)
(Project 1B)

The Shahbandar Jetty, which is a main gateway to Redang Island. The jetty was once upgraded to accommodate a higher volume of passengers and had turned into a tourist spot indeed. Besides, it caters and ferries passengers heading to Seberang Takir, a suburb that is situated across the Terengganu river. The Shabandar jetty is undoubtedly significant to the proposed site. Locally known as Pasar Payang, this market is located close to the Terengganu River. Built in a two storey modern building, it offers visitors a variety of traditional handicrafts such as batik, silk, songket, handmade crafts, as well as fresh produce straight from the manufacturers themselve.
Every visitor who comes and shops here will always have a pleasant experience buying local products as they are affordable and tourist-friendly. This market is also a great place to experience the culture as locals do their daily shopping there too.
The market is also located just nearby Terengganu Chinatown, with a walking distance of about 5 minutes. Nearby is the Dataran Shah Bandar, a GATHERING place. The site is currently occupied by a temporary building structure. As part of the site analysis, it includes analysis and summary of the issues related to the water and the site contexts, history and future planning through interviews and literature reviews.
Each of the groups will simultaneously proceed to the site analysis with reference to the proposed Site demarcated in the given APPENDIX 1. As part of the Site Analysis, an indicative feasibility study on the proposed programme will help to further strengthen your coming individual proposal. This exercise will be conducted virtually, and it possibly includes interviews with selected stakeholders.
